In the clinic

Self-service health check station

A self-service station in the clinic takes basic readings — blood pressure, blood glucose — while you wait, for a registered practitioner to go through with you at your consultation.

The clinic's self-service health station: a white, upright oval unit with a large touchscreen, a rounded sensor housing at the top and two labelled compartments on the lower body.

What the machine does

The station measures and records basic health readings such as blood pressure and blood glucose. What it gives you is numbers, not a diagnosis: a number on its own does not tell you what is wrong or whether anything needs doing about it. That part happens with a registered practitioner at your consultation.

What the station cannot do

The station is not a doctor and does not replace a consultation. It does not diagnose conditions, it does not prescribe, and it should not be the only thing you rely on when deciding whether to seek care.

Self-taken readings can be skewed by how and when they are measured, by food and by stress. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, diabetes or any long-term condition, keep taking your medication and keep your appointments exactly as your doctor has directed — never adjust them because of a single reading here. If you feel unwell, seek care promptly rather than waiting for your next check.

Blood pressure

Systolic and diastolic pressure with pulse, which you can bring to your consultation.

Blood glucose

A blood glucose reading. Please ask our staff how the measurement is taken, and whether it involves a blood sample, before you use it.

Basic measurements

Height, weight and similar basics. What the unit actually offers is shown on its own screen — ask our staff if anything is unclear.

How to use it

Available while you wait, and our staff are happy to help.

  1. Tell our staff you would like to use the station; they will get you started and talk you through it.

  2. Follow the instructions on screen. If you feel unwell at any point, stop and tell a member of staff.

  3. Bring your readings to your consultation, where a registered practitioner will read them alongside the four examinations.

Your readings

Health readings taken at the station are personal data under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. If you want to know whether they are stored, for how long, and who can see them, please ask our staff before you use it — you can also ask for that session not to be kept.
